April Fools, Easter, and the Babylon Bee

On our Easter program, we talk a bit about how this year's Resurrection Sunday is also April Fool's Day.   So, we talked a bit about the trend today of fake news, and even fake fake news, with satire sites like The Onion and the new Christian satire site, The Babylon Bee.

The Babylon Bee has become the best Christian satire site on the web, it's as good as any satire site of any genre, if you get the jokes anyway.   You need to be well churched to understand much of it.   It's worth a good laugh and it also makes a very good point about several issues that we are challenged with in church ministry.

For any satire site, one of the best things that can happen to you is when a legitimate news outlet, famous person, or fact-checking organization quotes your story as if it were serious.   This crowning achievement happened recently for The Babylon Bee when Snopes fact-checked a Babylon Bee article suggesting that CNN bought a large washing machine to help "spin" news stories toward their agenda.   Snopes took the time to inform it's readers that this story was false.  Here are the links we mention on our program today.

Congratulations Babylon Bee!

With all of that, we encourage you to know the truth that you need to know this Easter.   Our Easter show sermon is called "What is Truth?"   You can listen here:

The Beginning of The Story - The Story Week 1

Today is the Beginning of The Story!   This series is one of the best ways to go through the Bible.   We'll be focusing on the events through history that make up God's story - the story told in the Bible by over 40 writers inspired by God to write down what they have learned for us so that we know what God has done, what he is doing, and where he is taking us.   Wouldn't you like to know what the God of the universe is up to?  Wouldn't you like to know how history, philosophy and religion all resolve?  You can know this, it's what the Bible tells us, from Genesis to Revelation.  You know what else?  You are invited to play a part of that story!

This series is based on a Bible reading plan called "The Story" and you can follow along with your own Bible or use the curriculum called the story.   The curriculum is excellent, so especially if you are new to reading the Bible, it's a great way to do it.  Most of it is just the NIV translation put in novel form so you can read it easily.   You can find it and more related curriculum on our resources page.

You can purchase it from Amazon.com at this link:

Also, the reading plan is available on the free YouVersion Bible App by LifeChurch.tv or at Bible.com.   In the app or that website, you can subscribe for free to a "reading plan" called "Engaging God's Story" - that is the reading plan for The Story.   It will help you keep up every day.
